Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Increase (over current limit of 10000) the value for Zparm MAXARCH

Is it possible to increase (over current limit of 10000) the value for Zparm MAXARCH (archive log volumes that are to be recorded in the BSDS). Our Production System sometimes cuts over 5,000 Archive Logs in the business' standard Image Copy reten...

A Sort-Merge Join should be considered when joining on a SUBSTR expression

When tuning the following query, I saw that changing the "INNER JOIN" to a "FULL JOIN" caused it to perform many times better (which changed the join from a NLJ to a SMJ): SELECT ARCHIVE_STRT.LOCAL_TS AS LOCAL_TS_STRT, TIMESTAMPDIFF(2, CAST(ARCHIV...

Allow ALTER TABLE ... ROTATE for ARCHIVE TABLES (Type 'R')

We have archive tables to retain old data for up to 8 years using transparent archiving. When we try and Rotate these tables we get SQLCODE -20525: ALTER TABLE DBO.SECURITYLOG_$ARC ROTATE PARTITION FIRST TO LAST ENDING AT ('2020-11-30-23.59.59...

Support Common Table Expression (CTE) in NTE

Today, the using of Common Table Expression (CTE) is limited only to the beginning of the select statement. There are many products, specially open source, but not only, that take every select statement and cover it by SELECT * from (nte). When ...

RTS history table outside DSNDB06

With DB2 12 new function features, IBM added RTS temporal history option. This is an excellent option, considering we used to perform that manually. Unloading and reloading the STATS into a history table. The new option, creates 2 new tables with ...

Autobind retries

We would like in the form of a zparm parameter or as a parameter within a package the ability to have failed autobinds of packages be retried a number of times based on this parameter. We have a routine process that does several alter rotates whic...

Altering the default value of a global variable

Global Variables: A global variable can be created with a default value. Each session that uses it will then instantiate a version of that global variable, with the default value and any change in the value is limited in scope to its unit-of-work....

With RACF-exit, support auth cache refresh for RACF profiles with RACFVARS

Currently RACF ENF signals for the DB2 auth cache refresh are ignored if the profile contains a &RACFVAR class variable. This blocks the practical use of these profiles. In our case we have on one sysplex two different sets of DB2 subsystems(o...

Improve performance of except statement

Hi, For the first time I had a use for the except statement. It is quite simple: SELECT DISTINCT LOG_PGM FROM BDSTB030_BDSLOG EXCEPT SELECT LOG_PGM FROM BDSTB031_BDSLOG_SLET I want all LOG_PGM from the first table, that is not in the secon...

Optimization access paths currently used for SELECTs should also apply to UPDATEs (and DELETEs)

Currently, as I write a SELECT query with a correlated Sub-select (and no other predicates), I see that the optimization for that query uses a non-correlated sub-select and the query runs very fast. But, if I use exactly the same predicate, but wr...
