IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

Automatic Collection of Performance Metrics at Started Task/Process startup

Today, in order to collect performance metrics about the execution of the CDC tasks/processes, it is necessary to start the subscription, and after starting the subscription you then need to specify which metrics you want to collect for EACH subscription using the Management Console.  If the subscription is stopped or the task/process is stopped and restarted, it is necessary to go thru this process all over again.  In environments with only 1 subscription this is not that much of a hinderance; however, for environments with numerous subscriptions, it can be a very pains taken process and a far cry from providing worker productivity needs.

Two recommendations on how to simplify this process:

1)  Enable a performance metrics profile/configuration to be specified that is picked up at startup of the replication tasks (both source and target).  It should enable the profile to be used for ALL subscriptions or named subscriptions, based on source/target pairs, as well as multiple variations between different sources and targets.  obviously rules would be needed to determine if a subscription meets multiple criteria to determine which profile would be used.

2) In Management Console - allow profiles to be defined about what performance metrics are desired.  You could then pick the subscription and "apply performance metric profile" in a single click.   This would eliminate the need to check every single little box and to have to repeat it for every subscription.  An apply to one or more or all selected subscriptions would also be useful through this interface as well.

This is also useful for improving performance testing which typically involves working in limited time windows, a time during which every additional step that is needed wastes critical time for performing data collection.
