Create Column mask for any data type

With the attention on protecting sensitive customer data in our industry being very high, having a simple way to mask data on any table in any environment is a powerful tool.


If a data element such as SSN is stored as an unformatted numeric, currently creating a character mask of a formatted SSN, for example ***-**-1234, for a numeric column can not happen. The syntax for the create mask sql will not allow a character mask to be created for a column that is defined as numeric. I would like the ability to create a character mask for any data type.

    Hello Matt, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. After a comprehensive review by our Db2 for z/OS development team, it has been determined we have an available workaround:

    Users can add explicit cast in their SQL statement to make the data type consistent.
