Hello Roy, Thank you for your update. We hope your sysprogs verify your settings soon - and that all continues to go well! Closing the idea as Delivered.
Kind regards,
The Db2 for z/OS development team
Hi!
Yes indeed - I have had a great meeting with Suehli and Debbie and now all is clear. As always I was about 90% to blame as I misunderstood the very first panel instructions about the two fields at the bottom of that first screen. tehse are critical to the CLISTS abiliyt to work. We also used the incorrect SMP/E work flow instead of the proper Db2 Install workflow. My install is now done but I must wait for my sysprogs to double check all of my prefix's, SMS stogroups, USS Paths etc. etc before I proceed and actually finish the install. As far as I am concerened this AHA can be closed.
Many thanks!
Roy Boxwell
Dear Roy, We are following up with you to clarify that Items number 1 and 2 referenced in the previous comment, are both delivered. And, for item number 3 in the previous comment, we would like to ask you to please provide more details. Our SME has been in contact with you about the need for more information
Please update us at your earliest convenience.
Kind regards,
The Db2 for z/OS development team
Dear Roy, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request.
Our installation/migration SME discussed these issues/suggestions with you at IDUG NA and explained our strategy and latest enhancements towards modernization/simplification of the Db2 for z/OS installation and migration processes.
Because this enhancement request covers several aspects of the DSNTINST execution, we have broken it down as follows:
1. When the CLIST dies you are thrown back to square one and must re-enter everything again.
Solution available: As you navigate the CLIST DSNTINST panels, you can save your input at regular interval. Enter save on the panel command line:
DSNTIPxx INSTALL DB2 - ...
===> save
and this panel will popup. Select 1. Save and continue.
+------------------------------------+
DSNTIPSV
Save changes in progress:

Select one.
1. Save and continue
2. Save and exit
3. Continue without saving

PRESS: ENTER to continue
F1=HELP F2=SPLIT F3=END
F4=RETURN F5=RFIND
+------------------------------------+
When the CLIST dies, you will have the values you entered saved in the output DSNTIDxx member, up to the last save point. It is not necessary to re-enter everything again.
2. Painful process of having to navigate thru several panels
Solution available: Generate migration artifacts in background mode. This support was delivered in May 2023 via PH52482/UI91497 & PH52882/UI91519. This is all in our regular documentation as well as in this blog: https://community.ibm.com/community/user/datamanagement/blogs/m-sueli-almeida/2024/05/06/continuous-innovations-db2-for-zos-migration
Note: The support to installation artifacts is still in our backlog.
3. IF NE AND &SUBSTR(1,) = $ THEN
--> IKJ56545I THIS STATEMENT HAS AN INVALID &SUBSTR RANGE OR EXIT CODE EXPRESSION
IKJ56545I is a TSO/E message. In this case, it is generated by TSO/E because &SUBSTR has an invalid range. Unfortunately, DSNTINST cannot control the display of this message when the CLIST hits this error. This is a bug in our code and it would be very helpful if you could send us the trace in case so we can investigate and fix it.
As you will see in the blog, we are working on several items to make this process simpler, more user friendly, and with automation. Therefore, we have placed this enhancement request in Future consideration.
Please do continue to submit enhancement requests to us as customer input is key to shaping the future of Db2 for z/OS.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS Development team
