Make IFI process zIIP eligible

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

With more and more data being replicated off host, the replication tasks are increasingly using more and more CPU to read the logs. Allowing the IFI read process to be zIIP eligible would help reduce our general purpose CPU consumption. This would help reduce our operating costs, allow that CPU to be used for other uses. It would also make the mainframe platform more viable for the long term.

Hi, thanks for the follow up. My answers:

    1. "With more and more data being replicated off host, the replication tasks are increasingly using more and more CPU to read the logs." Are you strictly speaking about IFI requests for IFCID306 log read? **That's right. We utilize both CDC and Q Rep, with more utilization planned for CDC.

    2. Would offloading IFI READA (asynchronous) be a better candidate for this Aha Idea? **Good question; I'm not sure. I have heard that offloading the capture process is an option (I think?), but I don't know that offloading is an option for us. I might need more information to answer this more accurately.

    3. Do you have particular IFCID records you are targeting? **Just the 306 records.

Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks.

Hi Jeff, Thanks for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 for z/OS development team had a full design discussion on how to meet the needs described, and they have some questions for you:

    1. "With more and more data being replicated off host, the replication tasks are increasingly using more and more CPU to read the logs." Are you strictly speaking about IFI requests for IFCID306 log read?

    2. Would offloading IFI READA (asynchronous) be a better candidate for this Aha Idea?

    3. Do you have particular IFCID records you are targeting?

We are still investigating options but narrowing the scope would definitely help.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS team
