256 VLDB2012 - DB2 command addition -DISPLAY SCHEMA

DB2 commands need to be improved in many aspects to provide additional usability, functionality and detail.

-DISPLAY SCHEMA

This would provide identical functionality to -DISPLAY DATABASE but with qualifiers based on SCHEMA and TABLE/INDEX (OBJECT).

This would eliminate the need for DBAs to look in the DB2 catalog for this information, copy & paste, before issuing the command.

In SAP installations with upwards of 30,000 tables and even more indexes, the underlying database and table or index space is becoming less relevant particularly for implicit databases (the vast majority in your average SAP installation) and therefore it makes sense to display information at the table/index level.
