Update the sidebar views access

Problem Statement:
We have successfully transitioned our TM1Web reports/templates to Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW). Some users require access to Cube Views for data extraction and analysis. In PAW, the ability to access Cube Views from the left sidebar is available with Analyst access. However, we do not want to grant users Analyst access as this would allow them to make structural changes to the cubes and reports, which is not appropriate for these users.

Currently, the Consumer access role is assigned to these users to ensure they cannot make such changes, but this role does not provide the necessary ability to access Cube Views from the left sidebar for data extraction purposes.

We reached out to IBM Support, and they confirmed that the Consumer role does not have the option to access Cube Views from the left sidebar. IBM Support recommended reaching out to the IBM Development Team for a potential solution.

Business Concern:
The business needs to provide certain users with access to Cube Views for data extraction without giving them the ability to modify the structure or make changes to the reports. The current limitation in PAW means that users with the Consumer role cannot access Cube Views from the left sidebar, which impacts their ability to perform necessary data analysis. At the same time, granting Analyst access would introduce the risk of users making changes to the cube structure and report layouts, which is undesirable and goes against governance and control policies.

Next Steps for IBM Development Team:
Priority Request: We request that the IBM Development Team prioritize this issue, as it is critical to providing the right level of access to users for data extraction and analysis without compromising the integrity of the system.

Solution Exploration: IBM Development should explore the possibility of enabling Cube View access from the left sidebar for users with the Consumer role, without granting the full permissions associated with the Analyst role. Specifically, the goal is to:

Enable users with Consumer access to access Cube Views for data extraction and analysis.
Ensure that these users cannot modify cube structures, reports, or make changes that could affect data integrity or report accuracy.
Alternative Permissions Model: If it is not feasible to modify the Consumer role directly, IBM should consider providing a customized access model that allows users to have the required data access capabilities without the risks associated with broader permissions like those of the Analyst role.

Workaround or Fix: If a full solution cannot be implemented immediately, IBM Development should provide a workaround that allows us to grant access to Cube Views for data extraction while ensuring that users are restricted from making changes to the underlying structure.

Timeline and Updates: We request IBM Development to provide an estimated timeline for resolving this issue and to keep us updated on progress.

This idea is not under consideration. Consumers can be given access to books that include the views they need to access.

You can also give the users the analyst role and limit their access to modify content in the shared area with permissions in Planning Analytics Workspace.
