Make License Scheduler Container Aware

Presently, when a job runs on an LSF host while using a container technology, the hostname that is posted to "lmstat" is generally not the name of the host running the LSF jobs. Therefore, as container use becomes more prevalent, License Scheduler will loose it's value. In order to overcome this, License Scheduler needs tighter integration with LSF. More specifically, "sbatchd" can be made container aware, and can report the container hostname to license scheduler so that when the "lmstat" command reports a container hostname of "ade128bc88bc", LSF can associate it with the real LSF job.

Bill, we confirmed that our container integration strategy is to use Singularity and we are using the host network. So, there must be some other group using licenses that are using another scheduler other than LSF that is using something other than the host network.

So, I guess we will have to simply treat these consumers of licenses as others.

We have asked the question. Will let you know. I had requested the Sun Yi ask the container team for additional details. I think we may start tracking good hostsnames vs. bad hostnames in RTM to see where the trend is. Right know many checkouts are coming from HEX hostnames, but I don't know the volume yet. Hopefully we will hear back within a few days.

If you use host networking for the container, then hostname within the container is the same as the physical hostname.

    Are you using host networking?

If flexlm is specifically doing something to use the container name, then that's going to be a little bit more challenging.
