One-Fecht Index Scan for SELECT min(), max()

At the moment only a single SELECT min(a) or a SELECT max(a) uses a suitable index I(a, ...).

When selecting both, min() and max(), a tablespace scan is used to determine the minimum and maximum value. With large tables this behaviour is very expensive and could easily be avoided with a lookup at the beginning leaf node and ending leaf node of the index. A messy workaround is at the moment possible e.g. with a subquery in the SELECT-statement (SELECT min(a), (SELECT max(a) from t) from t)).

    Dear Florian,

    Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request.

    After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming product deliverable because the request has a high implementation cost and is viewed more as a 'nice to have'. Consequently, we will not be considering this request at this time. If you can perhaps have more users vote on it we will consider re-reviewing the idea.

    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
