In Db2 for z/OS v12, there are new catalog columns in the RTS tables such as:
SYSIBM.SYSTABLEPART
-TYPE
-PAGENUM
-BPOOL
-PGSIZE
-DSSIZE
- MEMBER_CLUSTER
-COMPRESSRATIO
SYSIBM.SYSTABLESPACE
-PAGENUM
-INSERTALG
-PQTY
-STORTYPE
-STORNAME
-VCATNAME
etc.
These columns are only ever populated with data when a new tablespace is created in Db2 V12 otherwise they are displayed as NULL. As per documentation:
[these columns] contains the null value when the value is unknown for objects created prior to Db2 12.
Why is it not possible to have these refreshed by runstats or a reorg?
We are building a process which looks at the amount of remaining space on a partition, for this we need to do multiple table joins between SYSTABLESPACE for the DSSIZE and SYSTABLEPART for the SPACEF of a specific particular partition. If we could get the columns propagated to the RTS tables then we can go directly to SYSTABLEPART rather than having to join multiple tables.

Thank you for submitting this Idea. Db2 for z/OS development has reviewed it and determined the following:
Typically (and this is a typical case), updating the catalog also requires updating the OBD. So only certain activities that update the catalog AND OBD can provide the change that is being asked for. Right now, population of missing part-level fields from the TS level is only triggered on:
ALTER TABLESPACE of one of the TS level attributes, then we'd populate all partitions of the table with the new attribute value
ALTER TABLE ADD PARTITION to insert a new partition, then we'd populate the new partition's fields
At this time, we are declining this idea with the suggestion that there is a work around that is not elegant, but does work.
We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
Sincerely,
Db2 for z/OS Development Team
