Set object status to prohibit data access

Before we drop a Db2 table we need to make sure that noone use the object in any way. We solve this now by stopping the tablespace and keeping it stopped for about six months. This means that noone can access the data and noone can run a utility against the object, including taking an image copy. This makes it a little risky. We will not have an image copy if we have to recover the object. It also complicates the maintenance as we have to add an EXCLUDE statment to every LISTDEF that includes the object. Sure, we can use option ITEMERROR,SKIP but that could lead to that we do not recognize other objects that have a problem.

Instead of stopping the tablespace we could start it with ACCESS(UT). The problem is that using ACCESS(UT) the data is still accessible using the Unload utility.

Our proposed solution is to introduce a new status that works like UT, but prohibits unload of data directly from the table or from an image copy of it. This way we could continue taking image copies and run other maintenance, but if someone tries to access the data in any way they will be stopped. After six months of "quarantine" we could check SYSOBJEVENTS if there has been any utility executions, correct these jobs if needed and then drop the object.
