Collect & Save DB2 Statistics Every Minute

Lack of “big picture” affects ability to tune DB2.
When a DB2 performance problem is bought to our attention, the first thing that
we need to determine is whether the problem is significant or not. Addressing
an insignificant problem wastes time and increases risk due to the possibility
of unintended consequences.
To put problems in context in real-time the DB2 Catalogue needs to include a
table that collects basic Statistics metrics every minute (i.e. one row per DB2
sub-system per minute). This table would have approximately 300 columns and
would include bufferpool counts (i.e. totals for all bufferpools), SQL activity
counts, rows processed counts, and locking counts. Less relevant metrics, like
DDL activity counts, could be represented using a single total column.
Arguably, the table should include an XML and/or BLOB column that is optionally
populated with unstructured or semi-structured activity data of interest.

Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While we view all the enhancement requests we receive as valuable and we would like to implement all of them, in an effort to have maximum transparency we are closing the ones that don’t currently appear on our two year product roadmap. This is not to say that these enhancements may not still be implemented at some point in the future as we do evaluate our requirements on the basis of customer demand and technical impact, to deliver maximum value to our customers.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team.  And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
