DB2 - exhaustive space search issue when APPEND option hits

System : DB2 V9 for z/OS with 2-way data sharing environment

The Customer is using DB2 V9 and when they change the table as APPEND YES, In the case the APPEND option hits the end
and no extend can be taken, it will also use exhaustive space search.

DB2 may not use exhaustive space search during this case.

We assume the suggestion is to fail the insert without exhaustive search when the request for the data set extent failed on the objects with APPEND. This may make sense if the TS are truly full and no space left anyway or/and the applications can tolerate the insert-failure. Currently Db2 does the exhaustive search in this case as there is a good possibility there are deleted spaces to insert the rows. In the planned release, we are considering to track the deleted space better than in the current release. With the feature, we will be able to support this requirement only when we know there are no deleted space.
